New member of the team doing well

In Me myself and I, The beautiful game on October 29, 2008 at 9:04 am

After our recent run of form, Torpedo’s fortunes have taken a downturn losing our last two games. Not that we’ve played particularly badly, but these were games that we really should have got points from. Official results are not yet in, but I put a good performance. But if I’m getting man of the match awards then we are not doing the business at the other end. With two games to go, next up are the unbeaten, free scoring and already league champions. So we need to roll our sleeves up and finish the season with a flourish.

Its just after half time in the run up to our first child, and things are looking good at the 20 week scan. Due date is 4 March, which would have been my Grandfathers birthday. Hopefully we won’t need any extra time!

No 3 in a row, but plenty of Par 3’s

As Curiosity Killed the Cat once said, Torpedo were brought straight back down to earth this week as the winning run came to an abrupt halt.

Quietly confident of coming away with a result against a team which we’ve conquered in the past, it just didn’t happen for us. After good performances in the last few games, I probably had a 6.5/10 and could have done better with two of the three goals. We were looking good at half time with the score 1-1, but that all important first goal of the second half went against us. Despite hitting the post late on, we were always chasing the game.

Like most footballers these days, I’m taking to the golf course on the days when I’m not training or playing (Tuesday nights!) and I’ve done 60 holes of my local par 3 course at Ally Pally, which I discovered a few weeks ago. I’m playing 18 holes on a proper course with a few friends this weekend. Result here soon…

Impressive…!

It was all good yesterday as we recorded back-to-back wins for the first time in a while. More pleasing is that is was against a good team. We really stepped it up, once again coming from behind early on to record a 5-1 victory. Despite the score line, it was close until the last 10 minutes, when we stretched our lead using our subs well against their 5 men.

Great team performance, but especially Andy who put in a rugged 110% performance, and bagging a hat trick. The man-of-the-match award surely beckons. More of the same next week lads!

Just like watching Chelsea

Victories for the boys in red and blue this week. Chelsea had a slightly easier time than us, running out 2-0 winners against a disappointing Villa side suffering a European hangover. Meanwhile Torpedo had to fight back from a 3-1 second half deficit to claim a priceless 4-3 victory.

I contributed several important saves, but couldn’t wrest the man of the match award from our striker Thomas, who slotted all four goals. Thanks to him and my boss, who provided free tickets to the Bridge for me and former colleague Sam. Who was, as you can see by the pic, pretty pleased to be watching his favourite team!

Nailwatch – The long & short of it

Considering I’ve been biting my nails for as long as I can remember, my latest attempt at stopping is going pretty well. Apart from both my index fingers, I’ve managed to avoid the rest – although I’m still picking at the skin a bit. Unfortunately, I’ve now had to get into a routine of clipping, filing, smoothing and buffing. It was a lot easier when I was keeping them short by biting!

Since restarting the season, Torpedo TF’s fortunes have been up and down like my nails. We’ve won one and lost two, conceding a 1-0 lead in our last game to a gift of a breakaway goal and an unlucky deflection. Come on boys If I can cut out nail biting, we can cut out the mistakes.
