Battered, tired, bruised and broken

In Me myself and I, The beautiful game on March 27, 2009 at 8:30 pm

It’s been a hard week.

Going back to work after paternity leave has been a shock to the system, but I’ve kept up my cycling and now the nights are lighter, I can bike to work. Isabel is doing very well and despite being a little unsettled the last few days, she’s been an angel. Mel has been hard at work in the pumping room as is getting used to doing most things on her own.

Torpedo resumed action after last week’s cancelled game and we came away with another precious three points but at a price. Andy, who had been having a great game was brought down in the first half and landed on his elbow. He was able to finish the game but was in quite a bit of pain. We learned the next day that he’s broken his arm. Tom who has been regularly getting our goals is also missing from next week’s penultimate game. We need four points from them to be crowned champions. Wish us luck and get well soon Andy.

Its nearly the end of what Lou Reed called a perfect day. Isabel Clara, I’m so glad that I spent most of it with you.

Thanks to everyone who helped us today. My parents for getting me here and coming to see it, Mel’s parents for the same and their support, Aunty Laura and Uncle Tom for being the best brother and sister-in-law, Sheila, Sam, Sarah, Peter, Barbara, Monica and the doctors at Wexham and everyone who has sent messages of support. We love you all.

See you tomorrow…

Nail Watch update

In Me myself and I, The beautiful game on March 12, 2009 at 10:34 am

In October last year my nails were the longest they had been for a long time. I tried to get into looking after them after years of abuse. So I bet you’re wondering what they look like now…?

Unfortunately I have receded somewhat… but with good reason. Our little bump is now a week overdue! Not that I am in any way linking the fortunes of my family with my football team, but things are hotting up in the league table. After last weeks depressing results, in our week off there were some surprise results and we are now still leading by two points but with a game in hand over our rivals.

Things are definitely going to start happening this weekend, so I’ll be sitting out Tuesday’s game, but in between hopefully looking after our new baby, I’ll be sending out positive vibes to the boys. Good luck to everyone!

Missed opportunities

In The beautiful game on March 4, 2009 at 1:56 pm

A most depressing day…

After a meeting in London earlier in the day, my second trip into the capital was once again thwarted by bad weather and traffic. After setting off early, I arrived just as the game was ending. I didn’t even bother to get changed, but trudged to the pitch to give vocal support. I could sense the mood was bad and as the soaked players left the field it transpired that we had lost 4-3.

The only silver lining was that second place side has also been beaten, so with 4 games to go, nothing has changed. But the disappointment was tangible that we had missed a BIG opportunity to put ourselves in a position to actually win the league.

We have a week off now to contemplate what might have been and then get in the right frame of mind to collect as many points as possible until the end of the season.
