One Minute Portrait #1

In Art for art's sake on May 31, 2009 at 8:01 pm

I had read about the Brushes iPhone app and saw the New Yorker cover which was done in Brushes, so I purchased the app (just as it dropped to £2.39 yay!) and have been playing with it all weekend.

I quickly did a (very) rough portrait of a friend and love how immediate it is. I’ve been doing some oil painting recently but I had forgotten how time consuming it is, having to wait a week or so for large areas to dry. So on Sunday we had some friends over and I did some more ‘one minute portraits’. They are quick, rough and sometimes funny but lots of fun!

Footy sunshine and rain in London

In Me myself and I, The beautiful game on May 27, 2009 at 1:32 pm

In the Apple Store

Live from the Apple Store in London’s Regent Street, I’ve got a few hours shopping time to fit in a haircut etc. before meeting up with the family in North London.

Last night was bright and sunny at the football, but unfortunately we came up against a good, well organised team. Although we were on the wrong end of a 4-0 score line, I felt we played pretty well and were unlucky not to come away with a few goals. I haven’t checked the stats, but I think that’s a fair few games since we’ve drawn a blank. Anyhow, we’re only a few games into the season and plenty of time to climb the table.

Must dash, plenty to fit in today!

Turning it around

In The beautiful game on May 20, 2009 at 2:54 pm

Fortunately, unlike Leeds United who went out of the play-offs on aggregate last week, Torpedo were able to turn around their form and post a convincing 5-0 victory this week which lifted us two places in the league.

Coach Rich tinkered with the squad, Donny returning to the starting line up and also prodigal son Lester – his last goals coming for us on 13 March 2007 – but he wasted no time in adding another 2 to his tally and his first MOM. Both Rich’s chipped in with well worked goals and John continued his good form with his second goal in 3 games. I added some choice saves to our solid back line to keep a confidence boosting clean sheet, despite a second half fight back from our opponents.

Watching the game on the sidelines fresh from the treatment room, was Andy, who received his winners medal for last season but must be wondering on this form if he can get back into the team once fully fit?

Good luck to Lester on his stag do this weekend, bring the boys back raring to go next Tuesday!

The celebrations from last season had only just finished and we’re into a new season already. Two games in and we’ve lost both of them. But not to worry, we’ve a week off and we’ll come back stronger. I’ve just watched Leeds get beat 1-0 in their play-off first leg, but I’m sure they can turn it round as well.
