Henley Sixes

In The beautiful game on August 26, 2009 at 8:22 am

No I’ve not taken up rowing, I’m far too unfit for that… but I have been stepping up my wii fit workouts and trying to do at least 30 minutes a day – the hardest part having to get up early so my wife can jump on after me in between looking after the baby in the morning. My wii fit age is coming down along with a bit of weight, so all good.

Last week my newish football team ‘Boca Seniors’ have started playing 6-a-side in Henley – a six a side tag now as well? – The facilities are really good on a large astroturf pitch next to the rugby club. We all agreed it was much more like real football than the pinball of Prospect Park. Maybe it’s because we weren’t doing so well there in terms of results? Even though we had a baptism of fire in our first game against the league leaders and we got beat *!@& – 0, it was a good game and I got to do some kicking and am generally more involved in the game, so much so I picked up a black eye from somewhere!

More updates on league positions etc. to come…

Camden Tuesday Premiership Spring 2009 – Season Review

In The beautiful game on August 13, 2009 at 8:38 am

Even though we moved up to the Premiership as Champions from the season before, we had lost a few players to injury and the squad didn’t seem as strong. But opening day was quite positive as we scored 3 goals against one of the contenders for the league. Although we lost 5-3 we were confident we we could get enough points to stay in the league. But despite a 5-0 drubbing of what would turn out to be the bottom team, we lost 6 of the first seven games and were deep in the relegation zone.

But then came a rally of 7 points from the next three games, which as it turned out would be enough to secure our safety. Although we lost our last two, we had achieved our objective of avoiding relegation by just one point. A dramatic draw against old adversaries Rage Against Retirement, would be our saviour.

On the whole a good season, with all players chipping in goals in the absence of our regular strikers. Even Rich P was in contention at one point for top scorer! Plus he missed a penalty…

On a personal level, I got 2 MOM awards and feel like I’m in pretty good form at the moment. No thoughts of retirement just yet…
